If you haven’t yet heard, the 2017 PDN Photo Annual is open for entries through February 3, 2017. This will be the 16th year PDN has hosted this prestigious competition, welcoming entries from photographers of all walks of life and honoring the best photography of the year. There are 10 categories in the annual, spanning assigned and personal work, photo books, student work, self-promotion pieces, stock and multimedia.
“We are incredibly privileged to have the Photo Annual entries judged by some of the most influential creatives in the world, who work for National Geographic, WIRED, Getty Images, 72andSunny, The California Sunday Magazine, BBC News, Bon Appétit, ESPN The Magazine and many more,” says Lauren Wendle, Vice President of Photo District News. You can see this year’s jury here.
Special awards and prizes include the return of the Marty Forscher Fellowship Fund for one pro ($4,000) and one student ($2,000), the $1,500 Sony Award, the $2,500 PDN Publisher’s Choice Award, and the new $10,000 Photographer of the Year Award, which can be awarded to ANY winner of the Photo Annual.
YPA encourages you to get your work in front of PDN’s judges and take advantage of the promotion that the Photo Annual brings. All winners will be published in the highly anticipated June issue of PDN, with additional distribution to photo editors and art directors who hire photographers, and prominently displayed at Barnes & Noble locations. An online gallery featuring winning work is PDN’s most-shared gallery of the year.
This summer, all winners and their creative teams will be invited to their Photo Annual party and awards ceremony in New York City.
