After spending two years in New Orleans working with Americorps, I knew I wanted to start my own commercial photography business. However, with few connections in the field, I struggled to figure out where I should begin. The Young Photographers Alliance played a key role in the early days of my business, providing essential guidance and helping me identify my next steps.
YPA has allowed me to connect with so many incredible mentors, all of whom have helped me develop my eye and my work. These mentors have nurtured my creativity and craft, making me a better photographer than I could have ever imagined. In addition, YPA’s networking events have connected me with so many amazing photographers and artists, as well as industry professionals. These contacts helped me to turn my talent and passion into a viable career path.
I first discovered my current photo agency, Mother Image, at a YPA networking event. I immediately felt at home at Mother Image, which specializes in family lifestyle photography. I have worked closely with my new agency to expand my portfolio, as well as identify new clients and markets. I was able to create a solid business foundation with a wide range of clients, from small locals schools all the way up to major Fortune 500 companies. This would not have been possible without YPA.
While YPA has helped me enormously professionally, I have also gained many friends through the organization. This photo community is a wonderful group to be a part of, full of interesting and talented people who really strive to help each other. I’m proud to be a member of this community, and I hope to help fellow young photographers achieve their dreams through YPA.
I cannot thank YPA enough for providing me with the foundation to build my future on, in such a warm and welcoming community. I’m so grateful for YPA and all the people who have helped me to create my dream career!
