2018 Mentoring Program Teams

Meet the 2018 Mentoring Program Teams

The theme for the 2018 YPA Mentoring Program was Silence. Is it good? Golden? Sometimes silence can be the oppressor, or used to intimidate. Silence manifests in a range of emotions: satisfied, hurt, angry, embarrassed, awkward, uncomfortable, tranquil. Silence is also welcome in our lives as our planet continues to become increasingly connected. There are times to break the silence and moments to pause and reflectively listen. It is the peaceful time between periods of activity while also the indicator of loneliness, isolation or repression. These are the types of questions the young photographers were asked to explore.

We also salute and thank our amazing mentors and our impressive jury panel for this year’s program! Our four winners have been announced.

Exhibition at Photoville

Thanks to ASMP, our Major Founding Sponsor, a selection of images from the program were showcased in the ASMP New York container at Photoville, held this year from September 13 to 23 on the Brooklyn Waterfront. Photoville is built from repurposed shipping containers and combines photo exhibitions, outdoor photo installations, talks, workshops, and nighttime multimedia events in its beer garden at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Attendance at Photoville is free. The photoville experience is unmatchable.
